Mailing Lists

Mailing Lists (vPanel → Mailing Lists) gives you one address that fans out to a group of people. Mail sent to team@yourdomain.com is delivered to every member of the list. It suits teams, small announcement groups and shared inboxes like support@.

Creating a list

• List address — the part before the @, lowercase letters, digits, ., _ and -, up to 64 characters. Pick the domain from the dropdown.
• Name — optional label shown in the panel only. It does not appear in mail.
• Members — one email address per line; commas and spaces also work. At least one is required, every address is validated, and duplicates in what you paste are collapsed.

Two names are refused: an address that is already a mailing list on your account, and an address that is already a mailbox anywhere on the server. Choose a different name in that case — a list and a mailbox cannot share an address.

What a list is, underneath

A list is a set of forwarders that share the same source address. Creating a list with five members creates five forwarding entries, all from the list address, one to each member. Every member gets their own copy of the message, delivered directly by your server.

That is worth knowing for two reasons. First, the mechanism is exactly as reliable as forwarders, with the same caveats about forwarded mail and SPF at the receiving end. Second, list members are deliberately hidden from the Forwarders page, so managing them here does not leave a confusing pile of entries there. Manage list membership on this page only.

Adding and removing members

Each list card shows its members with a × to remove one, and a box at the bottom to add another. Adding an address that is already on the list is refused rather than duplicated. Changes take effect on the next message.

Delete list removes the list and every one of its member entries in one step, after a confirmation prompt. Mail to that address then bounces as an unknown recipient.

What this is not

This is a fan-out alias, not mailing-list software. There is deliberately none of the following:

• No subscribe or unsubscribe. Membership is managed only here, by you. There is no confirmation mail and no unsubscribe link, so do not use it for marketing to people who did not ask — use a bulk-mail provider for that.
• No moderation and no posting restriction. Anyone who knows the address can send to it and every member receives the message. Do not publish a list address you would not publish an ordinary email address.
• No archive. Nothing is stored on the server. Each member's copy lives in their own mailbox, and if every member deletes it, the message is gone.
• No reply handling. A reply goes wherever the sender's client aims it — usually to the original sender, not back to the list. Members who want reply-to-all behaviour have to use Reply all by hand.

If you need a real shared inbox that several people read and reply from, create a single mailbox instead and give the team its credentials, or read it in webmail.
