The arithmetic

What the same servers cost on cPanel

cPanel prices its licence by how many accounts you run. Vanta Panel prices it by how many servers you run — so the second column stops moving.

Annual licence cost for one server at each account count. cPanel list price, checked 26 Jul 2026.
Accounts cPanel / yr Vanta Panel / yr You keep

Work out your own number

cPanel list price, checked 26 Jul 2026: Solo $29.99/mo (1 account), Admin $35.99 (5), Pro $53.99 (30), Premier $69.99 (100), plus $0.49 per additional account above 100. Vanta Panel is $10/mo per server at every row. Licence cost only — you pay for your own VPS either way. cPanel® is a trademark of its owner; we are not affiliated with it.

In both tiers

Nothing is held back for a higher plan

Free and paid install the identical panel. The paid licence removes three counts — accounts, mailboxes, databases. That is the entire difference. This is also why the flat-price newcomers are not a like-for-like comparison: most of them ship no mail server and no authoritative DNS, so you cannot actually sell shared hosting on them.

The questions that actually matter

Straight answers. If one of these worries you, it should — read the answer and decide.

What happens when my licence lapses?
Nothing you host goes offline. Websites, email and DNS keep serving, because those are stock Apache, Postfix/Dovecot and PowerDNS running on your machine — the panel manages them, it does not sit in front of them. Management degrades on a published schedule instead. From day 0 the panel reverts to free-tier limits, so you cannot create new hosting accounts, mailboxes or databases, and a renewal banner appears in vWHM; nothing existing is ever deleted. On day 3 automated backups pause — restoring an existing backup keeps working the whole time. On day 7 your customers see a service notice in vPanel. On day 14 vWHM locks to the renewal screen. Paying restores everything on the next licence check, within minutes.
Is my data locked in?
No, and there is nothing proprietary to unlock. Sites are ordinary Apache vhosts with the files under /home, mail is Postfix and Dovecot in standard Maildir format, DNS is PowerDNS, databases are MySQL/MariaDB, and certificates are ordinary Let's Encrypt certificates. Backups are plain .tar.gz archives with mysqldump .sql files inside — you can open one with tar and read it. You can rsync the entire server somewhere else, or point a different control panel at the same machine, without asking us for anything. We hold no encryption key and no piece of your stack lives on our servers.
What if Vanta Panel goes out of business?
The panel is PHP source running on your own server. There is no hosted control plane to switch off, no compiled blob, and no component of your hosting that calls home to work. If our licensing server stopped answering tomorrow, the panel keeps your paid limits for a seven-day signed grace window and then falls back to free-tier limits — it does not brick and it does not lock you out of the machine. The worst case is a working server, running the same open-source services it runs today, that will not let you add new accounts from the UI. Your sites, mail and DNS never stop.
Do I need a licence for every server?
Yes — one licence per server. A key binds to a machine fingerprint the first time it activates, and it will not validate on a second machine. Servers are the only thing we bill for. On Unlimited, the accounts, mailboxes and databases on that server are uncapped — the exact part other panels charge you per unit for. Basic caps those three counts at five each and is otherwise the identical panel, and you can move up to Unlimited at any time paying only the difference.
Can I move a licence to a new server?
Yes, yourself, as many times as you like, at no charge. In your client area open the licence and click Release from server; that unbinds the key, and it re-binds to the next machine you activate it on. Rebuilding a box, moving host or restoring onto new hardware is not a new licence and there is no migration fee.
Is there a refund?
Yes. First purchases have a 14-day refund window — email support and we return it to your original payment method, typically within 5 to 10 business days. After that window we do not pro-rate the unused part of a month, but you keep access until the period ends. Billing is monthly and you can cancel auto-renewal yourself from the client area at any time, so the most you can ever be out is one month. The free tier costs nothing, so try the panel on your own VPS before you pay anything. See the full refund policy for the details.

Install it free. Pay $10 when you outgrow one account.

The free tier is the same panel, not a demo build. When the second customer arrives, one licence covers every account that server will ever hold.
