cPanel Pricing Explained (and How to Pay Less)
cPanel pricing explained: every tier from Solo to Premier, the $0.49 per-account overage, a 1 to 500 account cost table and six legitimate ways to pay less.

cPanel is licensed per server, and the price of that licence is set by how many hosting accounts the server holds. At list price there are four tiers: Solo at $29.99 a month for 1 account, Admin at $35.99 for up to 5, Pro at $53.99 for up to 30 and Premier at $69.99 for up to 100. Above 100 accounts you stay on Premier and pay $0.49 a month for every additional account, so a 200-account server costs $118.99 a month and a 500-account server $265.99.¹

The four cPanel tiers
cPanel dropped its unlimited-accounts licence in 2019 in favour of the account-based tiers it uses today. The table shows current list prices and what each tier works out to per account when full.

Three things to notice:
- Accounts, not sites. One cPanel account can hold several addon domains, so "accounts" means separate cPanel logins, which is roughly separate customers.
- The boundaries are cliffs. Your second account moves you from Solo to Admin (+$6 a month), your sixth to Pro (+$18 a month) and your thirty-first to Premier (+$16 a month). You are paying to unlock the next block, not for the account itself.
- Per-account cost falls with scale, then floors at $0.49. A full Premier server is $0.70 per account; at 200 accounts it is $0.59, at 500 it is $0.53, and it never drops below the $0.49 marginal charge.
The $0.49 overage above 100 accounts
The overage is where cPanel becomes a genuine per-account cost rather than a tiered one. Once you pass 100 accounts on a server, every account you create adds $0.49 to that month's bill, and every account you leave in place keeps costing $0.49, whether or not the customer is still paying you.
The arithmetic for a single server:
- 150 accounts: $69.99 + (50 × $0.49) = $94.49 a month
- 200 accounts: $69.99 + (100 × $0.49) = $118.99 a month
- 500 accounts: $69.99 + (400 × $0.49) = $265.99 a month
- 1,000 accounts: $69.99 + (900 × $0.49) = $510.99 a month, or $6,131.88 a year
For a reseller, the licence bill rises with every customer signed and does not fall when one stops paying until you terminate the account. It is the main reason per-account pricing comes up in every cPanel alternatives round-up.
How hosting providers pass the cost on
You rarely see the list price directly unless you buy a licence for your own VPS. Hosting companies fold it in three ways:
- Shared hosting. The licence is baked into the plan price; the host spreads one Premier licence and its overage across hundreds of customers on the same server.
- Reseller hosting. Your plan is priced by how many cPanel accounts you may create. That quota is the host's tier boundary showing through.
- VPS and dedicated servers. cPanel appears as a monthly add-on at checkout, usually with the same four tiers. Some hosts buy through cPanel's partner programme and charge below list; others add a margin for the support burden.
If your host's cPanel add-on looks cheaper than the list price above, check the account cap in the small print; many hosts cap accounts rather than absorb the overage.
What a year of cPanel costs, at six sizes
One server, list price, twelve months. The right-hand columns show where a flat per-server licence lands at the same account counts, using Vanta Panel pricing as the example: Free for 1 account, Basic at $5 per server for 5, Unlimited at $10 per server for any number.

Legitimate ways to pay less for cPanel
None of these involve grey-market licences, which get revoked and take WHM with them.
1. Buy through a host or partner, not direct
cPanel's partner distributors buy in volume and often sell below list. Compare your host's cPanel add-on with the list price before buying direct; the trade-off is that support then goes through the host rather than cPanel.
2. Stay under a tier boundary
At 6 accounts you are paying Pro for one account's sake. Merging two low-traffic sites into one account as addon domains drops you back to Admin and saves $216 a year. The cost is isolation: addon domains share one login, one quota and one set of file permissions, so only do this for sites you own, not for separate customers.
3. Consolidate half-empty servers
Licences are per server. Two servers with 60 accounts each pay for two Premier licences ($1,679.76 a year). One server with 120 accounts pays for one Premier plus 20 extras ($957.48 a year). The VPS saving on top is usually larger than the licence saving.
4. Terminate dormant accounts above 100
Every abandoned account past the Premier ceiling costs $5.88 a year; fifty suspended-but-never-terminated accounts cost $294 a year for nothing. Audit suspended accounts quarterly.
5. Ask whether you need Solo at all
Solo at $29.99 a month is the most expensive cPanel account there is. For one site, a shared plan with cPanel bundled is almost always cheaper than a Solo licence plus a VPS, and a free panel on a small VPS is cheaper still.
6. Move to a panel that is not priced per account
This removes the problem rather than trimming it. HestiaCP is free and open source. CyberPanel's OpenLiteSpeed edition is free. Plesk and DirectAdmin are also tiered, with different boundaries, so they may or may not help at your count. Where a flat per-server price lands
Looking down the table, the flat licence is $120 a year from 30 accounts upward and does not move. At 30 accounts that is $527.88 a year kept; at 200 it is $1,307.88; at 500 it is $3,071.88 per server. Across a fleet the gap multiplies by the number of servers.
Check that you are comparing like with like: a cheaper licence is no saving if you then buy mail and DNS separately.
